Infernal Dispatches #16: The End Is Nigh

I’ve only reblogged a few things this month, and it has been even longer since I posted something of my own creation. But I have spent the month writing!

I am this close to finishing Devil’s Diner, a commission from @sapphomet about a waitress that becomes a demoness. I’ve been working on this story for months; here’s the project history that my Scrivener file shows for it:

Quick math tells me that comes to 12,469 words, but the story is currently only 8,750 words. That’s almost 4,000 words of deleted scenes, parts of the story that I’ve tinkered with and brainstormed and eventually cut. Heck, the story was ostensibly finished two week ago, and I went back to sapphomet and told ‘em that the ending wasn’t hot enough.

Anyways, as you can see, I’ve spent the past month seriously writing. 5,000 words isn’t a record-setter, for me or for many of the writers I follow, but it was good output that balanced my Real World time constraints with my Creative impulses and desires.

Yesterday, twitter informed me that it was the one-year anniversary of my @DeviLacroix handle. This tumblr has been around for longer, under a different (and since departed) pen name, but I really feel that I didn’t come into my own as a writer until I embraced this Devi persona. I’ve really enjoyed my year of writing; here’s to many more to come!
